JONATHAN VARGAS

Jonathan is a Mexican ornithologist, bird guide, and nature photographer enthusiast born in San Blas, who dedicates his days to birding tours, research, and conservation of birds in Mexico.

Now he is based in Morelia, Michoacan.

During his professional training as a biologist, he carried out research stays on migratory shorebirds at the Avian Ecology Lab in Weber State University, Utah, and at Point Blue Conservation Science, California, United States.

Additionally, Jonathan holds a Master's degree in Marine and Coastal Sciences, a certification as a Nature Interpreter from the National Association for Interpretation (NAI), and a Diploma in Ecotourism Destination Development from the University of the Environment in Mexico, and has participated in international festivals such as the Rio Grande Valley Birding Festival

As part of the Coastal Solutions Fellows Program at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, he has led shorebird conservation efforts in Todos Santos Bay, Baja California, since 2019. He also created a conservation outreach project called "Pajareando y Conservando". Additionally, he supports other conservation and citizen science initiatives voluntarily, such as the Urban Bird Program and eBird.
